Dr Michael Curtis

Personal

I was born and raised in Rochester, NY, and from an early age I found myself drawn to two things: the outdoors and music.

I grew up in a neighborhood full of kids my age, and summer days were spent outside from dawn to dusk playing baseball, soccer, football, basketball, capture the flag, and hide-and-seek.

As I got older, that love of activity shifted toward hiking, rock climbing, and kayaking—adventures I continue to enjoy today. I’m still working on completing all of the 4,000-foot peaks in Vermont and New Hampshire.

Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My dad listened to Elvis, Fats Domino, and Ray Charles, while my mom put on Beethoven and Mozart.

At twelve, I discovered classic rock, which soon evolved into a love of heavy metal and eventually punk.

Around the same time, I picked up the drums and began playing in bands—something I continue to do to this day.

Professional

I attended the University of Notre Dame in the late ’80s, where my lifelong love of Notre Dame football blossomed (and yes, I’m still waiting for that next National Championship). Travel has also shaped my life: I’ve visited more than half of the U.S., served in the Peace Corps in Nepal in the mid-’90s, and traveled extensively in Mexico and Colombia, where my wife has her roots. My Spanish is still a work in progress, but I’ve always valued the opportunity to learn from different cultures and ways of life.

My career has always centered on helping others. After college, I worked with emotionally disturbed youth in residential treatment and later as an outdoor adventure instructor for at-risk teens. When I moved to Vermont in 2002, I began my healthcare journey as an LNA, later becoming an MA before pursuing my PA degree at Franklin Pierce, graduating in 2018. Since then, I’ve completed a residency in ENT and worked in dermatology, in-home health, and addiction medicine. What I enjoy most about being a PA is the relationships I form with my patients—the trust, the conversations, and the chance to make a meaningful difference in their lives (which in turn makes a difference in my life).

In joining Dr. Curtis, what drew me most was his commitment to doing healthcare differently. I’ve always been inspired by the punk ethos of questioning the status quo and taking action to create positive change. Let’s face it—the current healthcare system is broken. Corporations and executives with no medical background are driving up costs and forcing providers to see more patients in less time. Patients feel rushed, and providers feel compromised. Dr. Curtis is committed to offering care at a fair price and giving patients the time and attention they deserve—values that align perfectly with my own.
